Save the Apalach Raises $14k for Apalachicola Riverkeeper

By Cristin Burns, Marketing Manager

On Thursday, July 26 the Apalachicola Riverkeeper received a big surprise, a check for the total amount raised in the SweetWater Brewing Company Save the Apalach program...$14,000! This represents almost three times the goal of the drive. The three top businesses were on hand to help deliver the check. Thanks to generous donations at the registers, New Leaf Market was the top fundraiser, collecting $5,000 in contributions.

New Leaf Market is proud to support the Apalachicola Riverkeeper. The Apalachicola River, floodplain and bay system is a National Treasure. It is known for having the highest documented number of biological species of any river system in North America. Apalachicola Bay is one of the most productive estuaries in the northern hemisphere, providing 90% of the oysters harvested in Florida and over 10% of the oysters harvested nationally. The integrity of its primary ecological functions remain intact today much as it did over 100 years ago. The Apalachicola Riverkeeper works to protect the river and bay against the threats to this incredible natural resource.
