General Manager’s Report
It’s exciting to be busy again! And we know that it’s noticeable, as many of you have remarked on it to us. It’s been tough for us all in 2011. From the beginning, we expected to see a short-lived decline in response to Earth Fare’s opening, but we didn’t anticipate the government layoffs and the changes to the government retirement plan. These factors have made it harder for us all.
We have managed through it together. Our employees have worked hard and we have allowed natural attrition to assist us. We are revising budgets and programming schedules to keep within our means. We have also started a new sales program called Co+op Fresh and plan to expand our demo program with the assistance of our vendors.
That said, we are always looking for new opportunities to serve you better. Is there a product you love that we don’t currently carry but you want to buy at New Leaf Market? If so, please let us special order it for you. If it’s something that you like, perhaps others will like it as well and we may be able to carry it in the store. With the holidays nearly upon us, please keep our Co-op in mind as you shop for your holiday meals and gifts. Shopping locally really does make a difference. For every $100 spent locally, $68 stays in the community. When you give the gift of a New Leaf Market owner share, a bottle of wine, or a personalized basket of goodies, you are giving the gift of health for the body, our local community and our local economy.
As we move into our holiday season we are thankful for each of you and look forward to building our future together!
