Farm ToursNew Leaf Market’s 5th Annual Farm Tour is a month away, but it’s never too early to plan your routes! Monticello is always a hot spot on this tour. With multiple farms, eclectic shops and restaurants close by; visiting the Monticello area is an efficient way to work in as many stops as possible in a short amount of time. But don’t fret, there is plenty going on in this little town to full up your entire weekend if you prefer.

Only about half an hour from Tallahassee, Monticello has eights farms at seven locations included on the New Leaf Market Farm Tour. Following the suggested tour (see map here) you can visit all seven on Saturday. Or stop in at Green Meadows and Golden Acres Ranch on Sunday for an abbreviated tour. Workshops and/or guided tours are available at Backyard Farms, Full Moon Apiary, Golden Acres Ranch, Green Industries Institute, Green Meadows Farm and Heavenly Homestead. And for the first time ever, Golden Acres Ranch is offering a Farm to Table Gourmet Dinner on Sunday, October 21 at 5:30 pm. Click here to learn more.

Be sure to wear comfortable shoes/clothes, and pack some water and sunblock. There is a lot to explore; you want to come home with memories and farm fresh produce rather than aching feet and painful burns. Also, it’s a good idea to bring an ice-filled cooler so you can stock up on goodies at each farm.

Be sure to grab a scone or cupcake at Tupelo’s Bakery while you are visiting Full Moon Apiary and Holly Hill Farm. If Tupelo’s is packed, Rosemary Tree Café & Gifts is a great spot to stop for breakfast and lunch. Or grab a quick slice at Monticello Pizza Kitchen between farm stops.

If it’s raining, or you just want a break, take cover in one of Monticello’s many downtown shops: Wag the Dog Thrift Shop (Saturday 10:00 am-4:00 pm), Bugsy’ Bling (Saturday 10:00 am-3:00 pm), Dennis Trading Post (Saturday 10:00 am-5 pm), Old Bank Antiques (Saturday 10:00 am-5:00 pm) and Vintage Treasurers.

Want to make it a weekend getaway? Stay at one of Monticello’s many local Bed and Breakfasts:
Avera-Clarke House Bed & Breakfast
The Daffodale House
John Denham House 1872

For a spookier look at Monticello, stay after dark and take a Historic Monticello Ghost Tour! Call (850) 997-5552 for information and to schedule.

There is a ton to see and do in this quaint city. Fun, food and farms for the whole family!
