Election Time Is Drawing Near

Natural Times, July/August/September 2012

By Sue Hansen, Board Director

And I’m not referring to the presidential election. As a New Leaf owner, you will want to inform yourself about the Board candidates and issues, voting procedures and eligibility. The election of new Board members is approaching, and the Annual Ownership Meeting on November 3, 2012 marks the beginning of the two-week voting period. You can vote in person at the end of the meeting or by ballot in the store during the following two weeks. The ballots will be counted on November 19. Also, please remember that only primary members can vote.

There will be a slate of candidates nominated by the election committee this year. Three seats currently held by Directors are up for re-election. The Board will be interviewing the new candidates during the months of July and August.

These forums are for potential candidates; however, this language reads like it’s for owners to get to know the candidates. If you are interested in running for the Board of Directors, it is imperative that you understand how the Board operates and how to declare your candidacy. You can do this at the two voting forums: Wednesday, July 11 and Wednesday, July 25 at 6:30 pm in the New Leaf Market meeting room. It’s also the time and place to learn about upcoming by-law changes. Just check in at the service desk, and a staff member will escort you back to the meeting room.

At the forums the Directors, current and past, will discuss the role and responsibilities of the Board. Materials on board structure, duties, job descriptions, code of ethics and time commitment with be available. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 pm, and the forum will begin shortly thereafter. For more information please contact Jim Terrell at 681-3627.
