Healthy, Local, Community—Learn About Serving On The Co-op Board
Natural Times, April/May/June 2014
By Norma Skaggs, Board Director
Are you a New Leaf Market Co-op (NLMC) customer? Chances are that if you are reading this, you are. Do you value the products and services NLMC brings to you, your family and our larger community? Perhaps you have an inkling to get more involved with the Co-op. You could do this by becoming a board member. That’s what I did recently, and it has opened my eyes to what co-ops are all about and how much more NLMC is than just a grocery store.
Co-op owners elect board members, so you must be an owner to be eligible to run for the board. It is only $100 to become an owner, and this can be paid in installments. You receive monthly Owner Deals sales and you receive a rebate check at the end of the year if the store makes a profit. Supporting (talk about supporting!) the local economy, your friends and neighbors, and educating our community about healthy food are all good reasons to learn more about serving on the Board of Directors!
The Board of Directors will host two forums for those interested in running for the Board of Directors on May 14 and again on June 25 at 6:30 in the New Leaf Market Co-op meeting room. Information booklets that define the board’s role, responsibilities, and expectations are available at the customer service desk. See you there!
