New Leaf Market Raises Thousands for Second Harvest
Every year New Leaf Market's Second Harvest Donation Drive is a success, and this year was no exception. In only nine days, New Leaf Market customers donated $4,850, drastically exceeding the $4,000 goal. New Leaf Market pledged to match every dollar donated up to the goal, which takes the grand total to $8,850. The community support was overwhelming, and New Leaf Market is proud to have customers who support Second Harvest every year with more and more generosity.
America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend is the food bank that distributes over 3 million pounds of food every year, equaling 2 million meals, for those in need. The food that they distribute includes donated products from national manufacturers, local wholesalers and retailers, other food banks, and local food drives. They also distribute USDA Commodities through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), and food that they purchase. Second Harvest does this in partnership with over 110 non-profit and faith based organizations who serve individuals, families, children and other low-income persons with special needs. The food is delivered and distributed to the partner agencies, who have food pantries, feeding sites and residential programs for those in need.
