An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

Share

But Why Does It?

Apples are just one of many fruits and vegetables that are beneficial to your health! They might not keep the doctor away for your entire life, but they can certainly help to keep your visits to the doctor to a minimum for as long as you eat them and other healthy foods.

Fruits and vegetables are jam-packed with nutrients such as vitamins C and A, potassium, fiber, and much more. Being healthy doesn’t mean that you need to eat every type of fruit and vegetable you find in the produce section at the grocery store; you’re free to pick your favorites and plan your meals accordingly. It does mean, however, that you should eat fruits and vegetables more often than not to ensure you follow a healthy diet. See below what fruits and vegetables can contribute to your health if they’re consumed often!

Apples

This brain and heart-healthy food is low in calories and contains a powerful antioxidant called quercetin, which may protect against brain cell degeneration that can lead to Alzheimer’s. Apples can also help lower cholesterol and the risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Grapefruit

If you can get through the tart taste grapefruits leave in your mouth, they are worth it! Grapefruits are an excellent source of vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and vitamin A.

Bananas

It’s “bananas” how good for you this type of fruit is! They’re full of potassium and fiber, so if you feel run down first thing in the morning, grab a few bites of a banana for long-lasting energy.

Spinach

A certain famous cartoon sailor man ate spinach for a reason! While it won’t give you super strength in real life, it is full of vitamins A, K, and C as well as manganese. It can be incorporated into just about anything: omelets, smoothies, salads, etc.

Broccoli

Full of vitamins C and K, broccoli has been shown to help lower the risk of some cancers.

Red Bell Peppers

This low-in-calories vegetable is high in vitamin C and carotenoids, which are good for your eyes.

Beets

This vegetable is beneficial for protecting your eyes and may even be useful in fighting cancer. It’s full of antioxidants!
