We’re On a Roll!

Natural Times July/August/September 2010

By Cristin Burns, Marketing Manager

On June 8, 2010 New Leaf Market was honored by the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and named the 2010 Small Business of the Year, 31-99 Employees. Every year the Small Business Excellence Awards highlight small businesses excelling in eight categories. New Leaf Market’s nomination, submitted by Mad Dog Construction, was one of 70. Three finalists were named in each category—along with New Leaf Market, Keith McNeil Plumbing and Rogers, Gunter, Vaughn Insurance, Inc. were also finalists. The winners were announced at the luncheon held on June 8.

The Co-op was also recognized by The Tally Awards for the Best Green Products. The Tally Awards are the people’s choice awards determined by an open nomination period and voting by Tallahassee residents.

We are very proud of these awards and feel honored to be nominated beside so many great businesses. The recognition speaks to the growing sense of community and appreciation of local business and natural and organic products that we see every day. The immensely popular Farm Tour, the growing support of locally produced goods—both in the store and at farmers markets—and community initiatives like the Sustainability Summit and the Lafayette Street Initiative are only a few examples of what is making Tallahassee an exciting place to live.

Obviously, New Leaf Market’s success is a direct result of our hard-working staff who are committed to providing quality products and service. It is due in part to the thousands of people who walk through our doors every day, the local vendors who supply us and the community partners (like Mad Dog Construction) who recognize and celebrate the Co-op.

At a time when many co-ops are struggling, we have felt nothing but the support of our community. Tallahassee has truly embraced the opportunities that the challenging economy presents. We look forward to taking the next leap forward towards a deeper connection with our neighborhood, our community and the natural foods movement.
