Ready, Set, Go?

Natural Times-November/December 2007

By Cristin Burns, Project Manager

Currently, we hope to begin construction after Thanksgiving. Phase one of the construction includes building new restrooms at the front of the store and renovating the Crystal Connection space (see the accompanying layout for details). Our existing exit will function as both the entrance and exit doors.

The information center, customer service counter, water machine and the plastic bottles will be removed until the renovation is complete. We apologize for this inconvenience, but there simply isn't room. The Odwalla and Naked Juice coolers will be permanently removed from the sales floor, however the juices will still be for sale. The registers will hug the construction barrier around the new restroom area.

Clear signage will help direct traffic in, and through, the wellness department. Bulk herbs will be incorporated into the bulk section, and the body care products on the short islands (essential oil, soap, body wash) will be placed along the perimeter. Produce will temporarily lose two of its display tables and all three aisles of grocery will be pushed together, creating long unbroken aisles. The end caps (display shelves at the end of each aisle) will permanently house product currently at the registers (candy, dog food) instead of highlighting sale items.

Thanks to Merchandising Manager Chris Terrell and Store Manager Phil Valentine, we believe that this plan will prevent us from needing to temporarily downsize the inventory. That said, we anticipate that this will be a difficult time for both our customers and our employees. As we approach construction, look for construction updates on our website, www.newleafmarket.coop.
