Local BBQ Sauce Is Keeping It Sassy

By Gretchen Hein

The love of good food and good times gave rise to Nellie’s Sweet & Sassy BBQ Sauce. That’s the way Monk Miller, founder of the business tells it, anyway. Monk’s grandmother Nellie, more commonly known as “Big Nanny,“ had a tremendous influence on Monk and his love of cooking and entertaining. Sure that his recipe would inspire the same in others, Monk set about to put a jar of his favorite sauce in every kitchen.

With recipe in hand, a five-gallon bucket and a heaping helping of hope and big dreams, the first sauce was bottled. The sauce made its way into fairs and festivals in North Florida and South Georgia. It didn’t take long for the word to spread; good food is something we all like to share and business took off.

Naming the sauce wasn’t hard. Monk had already paid homage to his grandmother by passing her name to his daughter and so the barbeque sauce honors both—Nellie’s Sweet & Sassy. I’m wondering who’s “sweet” and who’s “sassy.”

As so often happens, it’s hard to leave a good thing alone and so several new flavors have joined the Original. Nellie’s Gold adds a touch of mustard, Nellie’s Hot packs a bit more heat, and Nellie’s Sweet is a bit sweeter than the Original. Be sure to pick up a bottle the next time you’re in the store and give it try. Whether you put it on food or include it as an ingredient in some other dish, memories of good food and good times are sure to come.

Spot on with this write-up, I absolutely believe this website needs much more attention. I’ll probably be back again to see more, thanks for the advice! streetdirectory - Williemae -
