Seminar:  Feeding your baby (from birth to one year)

Becoming a parent is amazing and fulfilling but its also a learning experience. If parents are lucky, they are taught about how to feed their newborns whether it be breastfeeding or bottle feeding, before they leave the hospital/birthing center. But what happens when their baby is ready for solid foods? Not many parents are taught about typical feeding development and when/what first foods should be introduced. In order to inform parents and family members in our community of typical feeding development, this seminar will explore the following topics:

1. Typical feeding development from birth to one year

2. First foods- age of your baby and types, textures, and tastes of foods

3. First drinking- sippy cups vs. straw cups

4. Recognizing feeding problems

About the Presenter:  Annika Suarez is a speech-language pathologist and a certified lactation counselor who has experience working with a variety of speech, language and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages. She works with many different populations including babies who have difficulties feeding (nursing, bottle feeding, and swallowing), older children with articulation disorders (trouble with the “r” sound and lisps) and young children with language impairments. She is trained in Beckman’s Oral Motor and breastfeeding counseling. She is a member of La Leche League (LLL) of Tallahassee, the International Affiliation of Tongue-Tie Professionals (IATP), and the Healing Arts Alliance (HAA).
