2013 Grant Winners
The New Leaf Market Co-op Community Grant Committee is proud to announce the winners of two $1,000 grants. Gayle Dove, Amy Alvis and Robin Blackwell from Pace School will receive one of the grants which will go towards a student project growing produce that can be consumed by Pace families in need as well as community members who are supported by food banks. The project will teach students about healthy food choices, how to grow their own food and cook healthy meals.
The second grant was awarded to Ken David from Godby High School. He will use the grant money to create a aquaponics project to teach his students and others about the benefits of growing plants and raising fish in a closed aquatic system using aquaponic principles.
Originally two scholarships were awarded in memory of Matthew Tansey and Bryce Buchanan. The community grant was created to reach more people rather than just two individuals.
