Board of Directors' Committees
The BOD is required to approve at a regularly scheduled meeting decisions agreed upon outside of a BOD meeting and have those decisions recorded in the meeting minutes. Three actions agreed upon during the retreat require board attention: 1) formation of committees and membership; 2) each committee's function or purpose; and 3) proposed activities to include in the BOD calendar.
- Committee Purpose and Statement of Tasks. Committee chairs prepare a brief statement on committee purpose, tasks and whether the committee should be considered standing or ad hoc.
- The Owner Communications Committee consists of several NLM board members, but relies on all board directors for our new owner recruitment activities. The main goal of this committee is to provide key information to New Leaf owners as it relates to activities of the board, to help encourage prospective owners in the community to join the co-op, usually through recruitment days at the Co-op, and to keep up-to-date the section of NLM's website that relates to board activities and policies.
The committee also helps respond to customer service cards that owners fill out to express a concern that might relate to actions in which the board of directors has some role, i.e. may be broadly policy related but not deal with day-to-day operations. - The Community Outreach Committee consists of three board members. The overarching goal of the committee is to forge greater connections to groups of folks who may be under-represented as owners and shoppers at New Leaf. Specifically, the committee is reaching out to minorities such as Latinos and African Americans. In addition, it plans to make efforts to reach younger populations -- high school and college age -- as well as develop partnerships with other local businesses.
- HISPANIC OUTREACH
1. Promote NLM in the Hispanic community.
2. NLM has a culturally diverse staff. We keep track of ethnic backgrounds and compare it to Florida and national standards to make sure we have a well diversified staff.
3. The translation of NLM brochure into Spanish is done and is now available on this website. There is also a Spanish language option when calling the New Leaf main number. - YOUNG ADULTS OUTREACH
1. NLM publicity focuses on special issues. This year these efforts will concentrate on College Baseball. Also, several TV commercials targeting college students are being broadcast currently.
2. Course on Co-operative Principles and Values.
3. Jill Welch is contacting High Schools to go to their Life Management classes to talk about healthy foods. She will start creating a program for it. - AFRICAN-AMERICAN OUTREACH
1. We do a lot of donations and events at FAMU. We will participate in health fairs or other types of events at FAMU.
